Notice of the 60th Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting for Rowing ACT Association Inc. will be held on Tuesday 29th October at the Canberra Grammar School Rowing Centre, commencing at 6:30pm.

All members of the community are welcome to attend, although only one member per club or school may act as a voting proxy.

Nikki Ayers PLY becomes the first Australian Paralympic Gold Medallist

We at Rowing ACT are so incredibly proud of our home grown legend, Nikki Ayers PLY who last night claimed Australian first ever Paralympic Gold Medal with double partner Jed Altschwager.

Nikki started from small beginnings here on Lake Burley Griffin with Capital Lakes Rowing Club Canberra and the ACT Academy of Sport not that many years ago, and we are so incredibly proud to have seen her grow to a Paralympic champion. Australian University Championships – Reverse Traffic Flow on the Regatta Course

With the Australian University Championships coming up from the 9th – 13th September, Rowing ACT are developing plans to help ensure that all members of our community and our visiting universities are safe and supported when training and racing. With the universities predominantly being based out of Weston Park, we have determined that a reverse traffic flow on the regatta course will be the safest option for the week of competition. Therefore:

University Championships Competition Manager EOI

As many  would be aware, the Australian University Championships are being held in Canberra in September this year. 

Rowing ACT will be responsible for the management of the Rowing event, and as part of this, we are seeking Expressions of Interest for a paid role as Competition Manager to support the Executive Officer and Officials during the competition week.

Maintenance works and Upgrades on the Regatta Course

NCA are currently completing works on the rowing course. Please be aware that there will be a maintenance vessel in the lanes on the rowing course throughout the day over the next few weeks.  The maintenance crew will not be able to move out of the way for boats on the course. Coaches and crews are requested to use vacant lanes when training on the course, and ensure to steer around the maintenance crew.

Olympic Rowing Finals Live Site

Rowing ACT in collaboration with Rowing Australia will be hosting a Live Site for the Olympic Rowing Finals and we would like to invite our community to join us in celebrating our “Rowsellas” Olympic heroes. Show your Aussie pride and cheer on the Aussie team at the Dock in Kingston.

We anticipate that Final times will commence between 6:00pm-9:00pm, however, we share official times closer to racing, based on the official schedule, but make sure you put the following dates in your calendar:

Vale Dennis Hatcher

With great sadness, Rowing ACT acknowledges the passing of Dennis Hatcher, former Australian Rower and former ANUBC coach, on the 9th of June.

Paddle Australia Regatta – Lake Burley Griffin

With recent floods, Sydney International Regatta Centre is experiencing a severe algal bloom and as such Paddle Australia have relocated one of their Asia-Pacific regatta to Lake Burley Griffin. They will be running a competition on the Regatta course on Yarramundi Reach from Thursday 9th May – Saturday 11th May, with competition expected to start at 9am each day. Rowing ACT asks the community to avoid utilising the regatta course during their competition hours, and we will ensure to communicate the precise starting times where possible.

2024 Australian Rowing Championships Round Up

The 2024 Australian Rowing Championships in Sydney saw four ACT clubs send representatives up, being ANU, BMRC, CRC and CLRC along with 4 schools, being CGS, CGGS, Marist and Radford. A successful week in Sydney for all athletes and the ACT interstate team.

Our interstate team did the ACT proud, with 3 out of 5 crews taking home a medal. The challenge has been laid down to the ACT to see more crews take the field in the coming years.
