Paddle Australia Regatta – Lake Burley Griffin
With recent floods, Sydney International Regatta Centre is experiencing a severe algal bloom and as such Paddle Australia have relocated one of their Asia-Pacific regatta to Lake Burley Griffin. They will be running a competition on the Regatta course on Yarramundi Reach from Thursday 9th May – Saturday 11th May, with competition expected to start at 9am each day. Rowing ACT asks the community to avoid utilising the regatta course during their competition hours, and we will ensure to communicate the precise starting times where possible.
Paddle Australia will be utilising the Rowing ACT 1000m Start Platform, meaning that the platform will be moored on the 1000m start line for the duration of this competition. Lights will be attached to the platform for safety during the competition period, and we will do our best to ensure that the platform is moored in a safe location off the course as much as possible. Normal traffic flows will remain throughout this period.
Paddle Crews will training on Lake Burley Griffin from Monday 6th of May. Please keep an eye out for any crews during during training sessions (and welcome them to Canberra!).
Rowing ACT and Paddle Australia thank the community for your support. If anyone is interested in helping out, Paddle Australia has asked if we have anyone who could volunteer during the competition, which if you are available, we encourage you to help out. If you are available please get in contact with Sarah at eo@rowingact.org.au
If you have any issues, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with Sarah at eo@rowingact.org.au.
