NEW Format Head of the Molonglo Call for Entries

Why not cap off the first half of the competition season with an endurance challenge on Lake Burley Griffin with a touch of a socialising to bring in the festive season.

The 2012 Head of the Molonglo to be run from 8am on December 16 has changed and we hope for the better. This year’s event will be run as a test event to assess its suitability for future years.

Categories and Course

This year’s event features only 4 Men’s and Women’s categories over 2 course lengths, approximately 10.3km and 22.1km. The winners of each category below will receive awards.

Format

The race itself will be DIFFERENT. Crews start ready and waiting at Yarralumla Beach with coxswains (Strokes for coxless boats) on land who Start with a 100m run. Crews precede east from Yarralumla Beach rowing around the Lake. The Finish requires coxswains (Bow for coxless boats) to exit their boats and run to the Finish line.
Masters events will be handicapped as per the Rowing Australia handicapping rules. Crews with a higher average will start first and the standard handicap multiplied by 10.3 (10.3km). For example a masters women’s grade G eight would start 6 minutes and 21 seconds ahead of a grade A eight. Each category for non masters events will start together.

Post Race BBQ

Immediately following the race finish a BBQ and presentation will take place at Yarralumla Beach. All crew members receive a complimentary breakfast as a part of their entry fee. Clubs are encouraged to bring boat trestles.

Seat Fee

The seat fee for this year’s Head of the Molonglo will be $8 which includes breakfast. Coffee will be available for an additional cost.

Entries

Entries close 5pm Wednesday 12th December and are to be submitted by clubs via email to actra@rowingact.org.au. Clubs must insure they use the template entry form and include average age for masters eights.

Call for Volunteers
