Col Panton Rowing Marathon Start Time

The Col Panton will be starting at 07:00 on Saturday, 25 October. The early start is a return to past practice and is to avoid interference from and to other lake users. If you are not competing in the marathon, please keep out of the way between 07:00 and 08:00. Lake Burley Griffin water level to drop this week The NCA has authorised the lowering of the water level of the lake by approx 200mm on Thursday 2 October 2008 to perform restoration works on a jetty. Work has been scheduled to occur prior to the next forecast storm event this coming weekend to ensure minimal disruption to lake users. Please be careful around the shallow edges of the lake, and particularly where rocks have come near the surface in the past: near the Katie Bender memorial; east side of Black Mountain Peninsula; white posts near the AIS; either side of the rowing course in Yarramundi Reach between 250m and 1000m marks. This is not an exhaustive list. For more information regarding this work or the lowering of the lake, please contact Peter Clarke, Senior Project officer on 02 6271 289 Traffic Flow in Kingston Area The works at Kingston Foreshore have resulted in some close misses between Capital Lakes boats and those of other clubs. Note the following guidelines:

  1. Boats travelling towards Kingston must go through the 1st or 2nd span on the Barton side of the lake.
  2. They then row down the Barton/Kingston side of East Basin – finishing on the Kingston side of the CLRC access channel.
  3. After stopping, row towards the mouth of the Molonglo River, being careful of traffic going to and from CLRC, and only turning towards Kings Avenue Bridge once you are well past CLRC.
  4. On the way to Central Basin, pass under Kings Avenue Bridge using one of the 3 spans on the Russell side of the lake.

Star Picket thrown from Commonwealth Avenue Bridge There is a report that someone threw a star picket at the steam boat Enterprise last Saturday morning as it passed under Commonwealth Avenue Bridge. Please keep a watch and warn fellow rowers if you see anything suspicious. Also report anything suspicious to the police.
