Rowing Australia will be hosting a Level 3 Coaching Course in October, in Canberra. If you are interested in completing the course, see the attached document for information about how to apply.

Our para rowers have had a very successful regatta in Gavirate, with Australian rowers bringing home four gold, four silver and one bronze medal, making Australia the overall winners of the pointscore!

Paralympian & ANUBC member, Kathryn Ross made a return to the international stage, winning two gold medals in the PR2 Women’s Single Scull. She was coached by Renae Domaschenz, also from ANUBC.

Renae was also a member of the PR3 Mixed Coxed Four, coming home with two silver medals. This boat class saw two different crews race on the different days, with Nikki Ayers (CLRC), racing in one of the crews to gain a silver medal.

It is with great sadness that Rowing ACT advise of the passing of Life Member Dr Bob Porra last week.

Bob was a member of the Executive Committee of the ACT Rowing Association from 1976 to 1984 as Honorary Secretary, Senior Vice President and President (1980-81).

He was a major contributor to
administration of rowing in the ACT across the full range of its
activities.  These contributions included a major review of the governance
of ACTRA leading to adoption of a new constitution and incorporation in
1977.  He took the lead in advancing well considered proposals for an
international standard 2000 metre rowing course on Jerrabomberra Creek and
negotiated improvements to rowing spectator areas associated with construction
of the Molonglo Parkway.  Bob was elected as a Life Member of Rowing ACT
in 1984.

In addition to his service to ACTRA, Bob gave long service as a coach to Canberra Grammar School achieving great success with coxed IV boats. Bob’s name lives on in the Porra Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Men’s under-19 double scull at the ACT Championships.

The funeral is at St Christopher’s Cathedral in Manuka at 1.30pm on Thursday May 23.

Rowing ACT thanks all those who attended the Forum and will consider the issues raised.

Attached are notes covering the main issues raised and responses on the night.

The RACT End of Season Forum will be held on 8 May 2019. Members of the Rowing community are invited to the forum to ask questions and discuss the past season.
