The Saturday small boat *Winter Time Trial 2* was held in great conditions. Light variable winds. Sunny 5 degrees.

The *Sunday big boat* time trial event proved challenging for some competitors in the last third with a strong head wind along Tarcoola Reach to the finish line.

Two new Superior Jetties rowing pontoons were installed yesterday. These jetties replace the single very old and fragile timber jetty that has served Black Mountain and Daramalan clubs through most of the entire clubs’ lives at Black Mountain Peninsula.
The pontoons were funded by a combination of funds from an ACT Sport and Recreational Services Capital Development grant, a substantial contribution from the National Capital Authority and Black Mountain Rowing Club funds.
The contribution from the NCA to replace the existing platform followed years of lobbying from the Association and the local clubs, because it was dilapidated and unsafe.
The funding from the ACT was in response to Black Mountain RC writing a successful grant proposal to duplicate the pontoon due to massive congestion bankside on most mornings with growth of the two clubs.

NCA co-ordinated the purchases as they were keen to have identical pontoons. There was extensive consultation with the clubs and RACT and we are confident that this is an excellent upgrade of facilities. The NCA were keen to retain control of these facilities and will maintain them.

The old pontoon will be recycled to Molonglo Reach for use by kayakers.

The new pontoons are concrete decks that were broom finished to be permanently non-slip in accordance with Australian Standards.
· They have a free board of 100mm as this meets the Australian Standards for Rowing pontoons.
· All components were manufactured within Australia providing positive local content.
· The pontoons will meet the requirement of AS3962 covering the stability for multiple crews.
· The pontoons have a 25 year design life
· Superior has carried out numerous rowing projects over its 25 year history, including the system for the Australian Institute of Sport.

The second of the Rowing ACT 2013 Winter Time Trials will be held on the 22nd and 23rd June 2013. The format of the event is singles and pairs on the Saturday, doubles, quads, fours and eights on Sunday. Please note that doubles will now longer be allowed to compete in Saturdays Time Trial.

Winter Time Trial Seat Fees remain at $6.60 inc GST.

The course is 3km long and runs from near the Governor Generals wharf, around a turning boat near the 1800m start, down Yarramundi Reach, around Kurrajong Point and up Tarcoola Reach finishing at the first of the white timber piles, opposite the AIS in Lotus Bay.

The series winner for each category of boat is determined by a point score based on handicap times. Crews/scullers receive one point for each race they complete, plus one point for each opponent in that race that they beat on handicap time. Crews can accumulate series points provided they do not change more than 25% of their crew from one time trial to the next.

Entries should be via your club and sent by email to James Hammond. Entries close at 10pm on the Friday preceding the time trial (June 14). Larger clubs may collate entries into the template spread sheet below.
