Following discussions with the NCA and with their approval, the association has unclipped buoys on the Yarramundi reach 1800m course before the logs had time to arrive from upstream yesterday.
James and I with assistance from Philip Winkworth have pulled up the buoys outside lanes 7, 5 and 3, leaving the buoys either side of lane 1, except near the 1800 to 1500m.
We removed all buoys at the 1800 to 1500 where the major flow exists.
Hopefully with much of the course now on the bottom of the lake it will be less vulnerable than last time.
The Association and our volunteers will be responsible for re-clipping the buoys once the lake is clear of debris and hopefully the cable network is still intact.
Enjoy your training on the land while the lake is closed.

Lake Burley Griffin is closed to all sporting and recreational uses following the Queanbeyan Sewage Treatment Plant BEING ON BYPASS OPERATIONS.

The National Capital Authority was advised today that PARTIALLY TREATED sewage is being released into the MOLONGLO RIVER which flows into Lake Burley Griffin.

It is unsafe to use the lake for any activities that involve contact with the water such as swimming, canoeing, recreational boating, rowing or fishing.

Water features and irrigation systems that rely on water from Lake Burley Griffin have been stopped. The Captain Cook Memorial Jet, Central Reflection Pond and Centenary of Federation Fountains are among the water features closed.

Ferry services will continue operating where patrons are protected from incidental exposure to lake water.

Lake Burley Griffin will be closed for at least one week. Decisions about reopening will be based on water quality sample results.

Unfortunately due to large amounts of rainfall in the Canberra region the Independent Schools Rowing Association Regatta has been cancelled. The National Capital Authority who manage the lake has advised there are large amounts of debris flowing through the lake and with the predication of more rain they remain on flood alert.
