New Rowing Pontoons at Black Mountain Peninsula

Two new Superior Jetties rowing pontoons were installed yesterday. These jetties replace the single very old and fragile timber jetty that has served Black Mountain and Daramalan clubs through most of the entire clubs’ lives at Black Mountain Peninsula.
The pontoons were funded by a combination of funds from an ACT Sport and Recreational Services Capital Development grant, a substantial contribution from the National Capital Authority and Black Mountain Rowing Club funds.
The contribution from the NCA to replace the existing platform followed years of lobbying from the Association and the local clubs, because it was dilapidated and […]

ACT at the 2013 Australian National Champs

The 2013 Australian National Championships was a great success for all of the ACT’s clubs and schools that competed. Every program had a good regatta but particular highlights included wins for Canberra Girls Grammar in the Women’s Under 17 Coxed Quad Scull and ANUBC in the Men’s Club Double. Notable second places for Canberra Rowing Club in composite crews in the open fours and lightweight quad provided an excellent reward for Canberra RC’s superb efforts in the local competition, indicating the club can still be among Australia’s elite.

All of the ACT school programs had some success at this year’s […]

The final day started well, with the ANU men’s double scull of Dylan Conolan and David Wright winning gold in the first of the finals. The ANU double’s recent winter of strength and endurance training was clearly evident when they powered away from the […]

Proposal to change rower status rules

Rowing ACT replaced its former status rules with Rower Scores into local regattas to provide fairer racing for all participants for 2006. This was a big experiment that eliminated School and most masters events in an attempt to get bigger fields and better racing for all concerned. The ACT gained fuller fields using most of the lanes on our course, and consequently shorter regattas, and therefore more efficient use of our BROs’ time. The Victorians who pioneered the scheme reported increased participation following on from adopting Rower Scores.
However in the ACT Rower Score had shortcomings: good Masters women […]
