Rowing Australia today announced that Andrew Randell will be joining Rowing Australia’s Men’s National Training Centre (NTC).
Rowing ACT congratulates Andrew on this acknowledgement of his exemplary coaching, and we wish him well. Andrew will still supervise the ACT High performance camp at Jindabyne in January, and RACT has approached appropriate High Performance coaches to assume Andrew’s role up until the National Regatta, so that our athletes are not inconvenienced. We will look to advertise and find a replacement after the National Regatta.

Randell joins Rowing Australia having turned around an under-performing ACTAS program to contribute significantly to the current National team, including success at the world under 23 championships, and placings at the Inter-state regatta.

Apart from his ACT successes, Randell has been to two Olympic Games, Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016 and has coached many crews to World Championship and World Cup successes. His first international medal came back in 1995 when he oversaw the Junior Men’s Four to a silver medal at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Poland. He went on to coach the 2002 Junior Men’s Four to a gold at the World Championships in Lithuania that year, while in 2004 he coached the U23 Men’s Coxed Four to a gold at their World Championships. In 2013, he coached the U23 Men’s Four to a silver medal at the World Championships, while the following year he oversaw the U23 Men’s Eight that went on win a silver medal at the same event. In addition, Randell has played a pivotal role over the years in developing Australia’s US-based underage athletes. In 2016, Randell oversaw Australia’s Men’s Double Sculls and also Men’s Single Sculls at the Rio Olympic Games. Randell in fact coached the latter, Rhys Grant, to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games at the final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne.
Rowing ACT wishes Andrew well with the International challenge he has accepted.
