The second annual Head of the Molonglo was held for this morning in perfect conditions on Lake Burley Griffin.
Fourteen crews participated (the same number as the initial Head of the Yarra!). The wind picked up after the last crew finished and we had superb conditions for the race.
The association is aware that north side clubs were inconvenienced by road closures for the Iron man triathlon. These road closures were listed on the NCA website but the local ramifications were not apparent to RACT. So excellent perseverance of the various northside rowers to surmount this hurdle to get to the start line.

The results of the event in categories:

Great work for all crews.
I would like to thank all our volunteer traffic marshals.
We managed this event with a great effort from club volunteers, while our Exec Officer was in Canberra Hospital.

I commend those volunteer traffic marshals, Marist parents for providing the barbecue and Michael Cusack for his help at the start and finish.
I visited James Hammond at Canberra Hospital and he was operated on this morning (during the race) and he is recovering from his appendectomy.
I informed him that the event had run perfectly.

Weston Park Regatta Setup, Boating Arrangements and Safety Warnings

Due to low lake levels Weston Park will once again act as the alternative regatta hub. Regatta commentary will be broadcast in Weston Park as well as Lady Denman Drive. The First Aid facilities will be located in Weston Park.

Unfortunately, however, there will be construction underway in Weston Park for some time. To limit access to the construction site a fence has been erected along the line of the site. We have however made arrangements for a break on the fence to allow boating form Weston Park. Spectating is available from this section and through the fence. We acknowledge this is not ideal, and we ask for patients given the circumstances.

Please ensure you do not cross the fence line into the construction site.

Parking

Within Weston Park adequate spectator parking is available in the car park at the end of Pescott Lane. The access route will be sign posted from Weston Park road.

Weston Park trailer parking is available in the car park at the end of Pescott Lane (accessed via Pescott Lane). When entering Weston Park follow the regatta parking signs. Please insure you park trailers as close to the boat park as possible.

Weston Park Setup

Please ensure you do not setup or drive vehicles in the additional spectator area as there are irrigation pipelines below the surface. This area is north of the dirt path leading from the end of Pescott Land to the water’s edge.

Lady Denman Drive Parking

Please ensure those viewing from the finish area do not park illegally. Ample parking is available on Black Mountain Peninsular which is less than a 6 minute walk from the finish line.

Catering

A Café is located adjacent to the car park off Pescott Lane which will open at 8am and serve everything you would expect from a typical café.

A huge thank you also to the BRO’s who ran the event wonderfully and faced their own challenges with wind gusts uplifting their shelter on the rotunda at the finish.
Lake Tuggeranong Rowing Club hopes to be able to make this regatta a regular event on the RACT summer regatta calendar and will take constructive notes to make it a bigger and better event in 2013.
