ACT Rowing Association - Youth Cup 2009

Selection Bulletin 05 May 2009

Hi all,

In anticipation of upcoming selections for this year's Youth Cup (see bulletin here), we would like to answer a few questions that we have received about the process and circulate this as widely as possible so that there is a basic understanding of what will be required by ACT rowers and also to outline some key roles in the selection process:

  1. The Selection Policy is to be prepared and circulated by ACTRA with direction and assistance where possible from the ACTAS Head Coach.
  2. Team Selectors will be Nick Hunter, Paul Cowan and Gordon Marcks (ACTAS Head Coach).
  3. Selection will be by participation in the ACTRA Winter Time Trials as well as 6000m and 2000m ergometer testing in the weeks following the time trials.
  4. Athletes nominating for the Youth Cup Team will be required to compete in the Winter Time Trials in EITHER a coxless pair OR single scull.
  5. Selections will be made for a squad from which the final team/crews will be selected.
  6. The coaching/management staff for the team will be selected as soon as possible so that as much as possible crew training can be conducted (which has occurred to some extent already).
  7. Other testing and events may be included to rank and monitor the individual athletes nominating for the crews.
  8. Exemptions will be granted for exceptional circumstances and athletes seeking exemption from ANY event should contact the Selectors with details as soon as possible.

Any athlete, coxswain, coach or manager who is interested in participating in the event should contact the Selectors as soon as possible. Nomination forms will be circulated as soon as possible.

Athletes should be preparing for the selection events by training in singles or pairs which should be undertaken in their normal club/school environments.

 The selectors.
