Canberra Grammar School is looking to employ a Head of Rowing in a full-time capacity to lead the CGS Rowing programme. It is expected that this role will be primarily undertaken in Terms 1, 3 and 4; in Term 2 tasks will be redirected towards the Winter Co-curricular and/or Academic programmes.
The Head of Rowing will mentor and guide our rowing coaches; design, implement and deliver an annual rowing programme; as well as provide operational leadership specific to the School’s sporting culture. The incumbent will implement appropriate programmes that will cater for a range of ability levels, from beginners to elite athletes. This position may be required to coach a crew.
The Head of Rowing will value sport and the contribution of Rowing to the overall well-being and development of students. The Head of Rowing reports to the Director of Active Education and works with: the Head of Sport, the Rowing Administrator and the Active Education Administrator.

Detailed Description Head of Rowing – Canberra Grammar School

Canberra Grammar School is looking to employ a Head of Rowing in a full time capacity to lead the CGS Rowing programme. It is expected that that this role will be primarily undertaken in Terms 1, 3 and 4; In Term 2, tasks will be redirected towards the Winter Cocurricular and/or Academic programmes.

The Head of Rowing will demonstrate leadership in developing the tone and culture of the CGS Rowing Shed.

Key tasks are as follows:

  • Promote the values and goals of the programme to the CGS community;
  • Communicate effectively with parents to ensure families are well-informed;
  • Develop and monitor training programmes for both the junior and senior shed;
  • Coach recruitment and development;
  • Crew selection;
  • Manage facilities and equipment;
  • Attend all training sessions and coach when required;
  • Develop and lead the coordination of Boat Camp in January;
  • Attend local and interstate regattas;
  • Some administrative tasks as necessary.

This strategy not only aims to improve communication within the ACT rowing community, but also sets goals to improve Rowing ACT’s media presence and awareness of the sport.

The annual Rowing ACT Presentation was held on 8 April to celebrate the highly successful 2018 season.

Congratulations to all medallists, trophy winners and pennant winners (a full list of winners is attached), as well as all of the rowers, coxswains, coaches, boat race officials, volunteers and supporters who participated throughout the season!  We look forward to another successful season ahead, with Winter Time Trials just around the corner
