The host for this weekend’s regatta will be Radford College, replacing at short notice Capital Lakes Rowing Club which could not host on the re-scheduled date. Canberra Rowing Club Corporate Regatta – Sunday 09:00 to Noon The Canberra RC will be holding its annual corporate regatta on this Sunday morning. It is being held on the final 500m of the Yarramundi Reach rowing course and it would be appreciated if other lake users could take care in the area.

The final draw for this weekend’s regatta can be found here. Regatta #3 (Black Mountain RC) – Correction The news entry yesterday incorrectly stated that the BMRC Sculls Challenge was for men’s and women’s single sculls. In fact the event is for open men’s single sculls and open women’s pairs. Theevent list has been corrected.

Entries for the Black Mountain Rowing Club Regatta (on 01 December) close this weekend with your club. The event list can be foundhere. Like last year, Black Mountain RC is offering cash prizes. This year it is a total of $5,000 and is for both open men’s single sculls and women’s open pairs. A flyer about the “BMRC Sculls Challenge” can be found here (note that entries cannot be input to ROMS as said on the flyer – they must be submitted through an RA affiliated club). ACT and ROMS The ACT Rowing Association will no longer be using the ROMS system this season. ROMS was used to publish event lists and support entries by clubs. Therefore, if you looked for event lists and entries made on ROMS, you will no longer find ACTRA regattas listed there. Event lists will continue to be published on this web site. Australian Rowing Championships 2008 – Bulletin #1 Published The 2008 ARCs will be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith and the first bulletin is now available from the Rowing NSW web site.

The National Capital Authority has lifted its prohibition on using LBG. This applies to all use, not just rowing. The postponement of the Capital Lakes RC Regatta still applies – to next Saturday, 24 November.

The second regatta of the ACT season is being postponed to 24 November due to the Lake Burley Griffin closure. The National Capital Commission is due to make its next assessment of the lake’s safety on Friday afternoon. This timing does not give ACTRA sufficient time to deal with the possible outcomes. If you need or want to change your entry, you can do this through your club. Find out from your club’s regatta secretary when changes need to be submitted. A new regatta draw will be published next week. Motor Boat Driver Licence – ACT Test Session Announced People driving motor boats on the ACT’s lakes are required to hold a current motor boat driver’s licence. The ACT does not issue its own licences and therefore a NSW licence is the easiest option. You can arrange to sit a licence test in Queanbeyan, or you can join in with fellow rowing people at an ACTRA arranged seminar and test session starting at 18:30 on Wednesday, 12 December at Sports House, Hackett. Costs are $10 for the seminar, $27 to attempt the licence test, $41 for a 1 year licence, $97 for a 3 year Licence, $20 for a 1 year Licence concession holder, and $47.50 for a 3 year Licence concession holder. Please RSVP to ACTRA by Wednesday 5 December. You can read about the licence requirements on the NSW government web site.

We believe their has been an improvement to the bacteria levels in the Lake in the most recent test. There will be more test results due in tomorrow (Thursday) and it looks highly likely that secondary activities (boating) may be able to recommence before the weekend. We will advise the status after the NCA meeting tomorrow. Please note that the Lake still remains closed until the NCA officially declares the lake is suitable for use. The Back Splash – November Edition The latest edition of the ACTRA newsletter is available here. Boat Race Officials – We need some more We need some volunteers to give up a couple of Saturday mornings each summer to motor around on Yarramundi Reach enjoying good company and ensuring our rowing regattas are run efficiently, safely and fairly. ACT Boat Race Officials have a wonderful reputation in Australian rowing circles and you would be joining a great group. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact the ACTRA office.
