ACT Kings Cup Selection Policy & Call for Nominations The selection policy for athletes wishing to represent the ACT at next year’s Australian Championships has now been released with a nomination form. Nominations need to be submitted by 08 November 2007. There are several other important dates listed in the policy document. NTC Time Trial Friday 09 November – call for entries, and lake warning The third NTC Time Trial for those athletes bidding for ACT scholarships and representative selection will be run on Friday week, 09 November. Entries close with ACTAS next Tuesday. Non-time triallists, please keep clear of the course (Black Mountain Peninsula to Kingston Foreshore) between 06:45 and 07:30. Lake Burley Griffin closure – Weekend 10-11 November A Canberra Biennial event will close the southern foreshore of LBG from noon to 18:00 each day on this weekend. Rowers should keep away at these times.

The results for this morning’s race can be found here. Congratulations to:

  • Sonia Mills (CRC W1x) for taking out the Col Panton trophy for first across the line. She rowed a well paced race to keep fast finishing 4xs and 8s at bay.
  • Nick Barnier, Zac Cleaver, Carly McKay & Mack Wilcox (CGS, CRC, Banks, ANU – Mix4x-) took both the Skippers Shield (fastest crew) and the Cootapatamba Cup (First 4x)
  • Rhiannon Hughes, Danielle Jolly, Lauren Burraston & Adair Ferguson (CRC W4x-) won the Black Pete Plate for the fastest non-scholarship womens boat.
  • David Hastie, Matthew Buchtman, Chris Lowe, Tom Greegan & an unnamed (Alison?) cox (ADFA M4+) won the handsome Steggman Trophy for the fastest coxed four.

The start list can be found here. Note that the start of the second Sri Chinmoy triathlon has been delayed until after the Marathon crews have passed. Crews still must exercise caution before and after the marathon. Regatta #1 – CGGS Regatta – 03 November – Additional Event The Mix2X event has been added to the program. The omission from the original list was an error. It is listed as event 36 on ROMS but will be slotted in to an appropriate place on the program during the draw.

The start time for the marathon has been set at 08:30 Daylight Saving Time. All competitors need to be at the start line for instructions and marshalling 15 minutes before the start (08:15). The event must start on schedule to avoid interference with Sri Chinmoy triathlons that are taking place on Sunday morning. We are timing the marathon between two triathlon swim stages. One starts at 07:00 and the next at 09:00. See lake traffic warnings below because one way or another, you are going to be seriously affected. Note that there are road closures associated with the triathlons as well. The start line will be about 50m into East Basin from the Kingston Boat Harbour – in open water. This is because of the construction works around the boat harbour. Lake Burley Griffin Traffic Warning – Saturday & Sunday 27-28 October This weekend there is a series of triathlons taking place. Details are on the Sri Chinmoy web site. Besides road closures, there will be swimmers in the lake generally in the area from Yarralumla Beach towards Black Mountain. Be careful on the days leading up to the weekend for people training, and then on the weekend. The scheduled races seem to be:

  • Saturday 08:00 – Yarralumla Beach to Black Mountain Peninsula (one way)
  • Saturday 14:30 – only in the Yarralumla Beach area
  • Saturday 15:30 – Yarralumla Beach to near Spinnaker Island and return
  • Sunday 07:00 – one lap from Yarralumla Beach to almost the Museum, towards Black Mountain past west side of Springbank Island, then back past west side of Spinnaker Island to Yarralumla Beach (3.2km)
  • Sunday 08:30 – one lap from Yarralumla Beach around Spinnaker Island and back to the beach
