Hi All,

All our crews were able to walk away from the Luzern regatta having learnt
some good lessons with a very solid races.

The women's four raced well on both Saturday and Sunday. Despite finishing
in 5th place on both days they were very close to the rest of the field in
the start and then fought it out with France for the remainder of the 2000m.
This was pretty close to how it ran for the rest of the crews and to put it
in perspective, Australia was the only U23 team competing in this senior
World Cup event which typically has the best crews and rowers in the world
competing there.

Following the regatta we had a great BBQ at a farm near the course at which
family and friends (and any other Australians) at the regatta were invited
to attend. It was a great night (although raining a little) and we were
treated to authentic Swiss farm sights and sounds (and smells) with plenty
of bell wearing cows wandering around.

On Monday morning we caught a train to Zurich in time for our flight to
Amsterdam and then a 2hr bus ride later, found ourselves at a place near
Tilburg which will be our base until next Monday.

All the coaches were looking forward to the training this week where we can
consolidate our results from the weekend and do some solid work together
towards the end of the week.

The boats are about 15min walk from the bungalows and most of the crews have
been rowing up and down a 2500m stretch of a canal. The water has been
excellent apart the occasional barge. It's surprising just how large they
are when you see them close up. There is a narrower section of the canal
which we can use but this carries the extra excitement of needing to turn
around quickly if any barges are coming.

We're also sharing our training venue with the Canadian U23's who had a few
boats out this morning.

All going well will send another email towards the weekend.
