Special Arrangements for the BMRC Regatta

5 May 2005

The timing of the Sri Chinmoy Off-Road Triathlon will overlap with the Black Mountain Rowing Club Regatta. Clubs are asked to advise their members of the following measures and changes that will be in place this Saturday to manage the concurrent events. These have been coordinated with the Sri Chinmoy organisers to ensure the safety of the triathlon and rowing competitors and spectators and to minimise the impact on each event.

TARCOOLA REACH

The 500m swim leg of the off-road triathlon will be run between 8.00am and 8.20am on Saturday on a loop course in Tarcoola Reach, between Black Mountain Peninsula and Weston Park. Rowers asked to avoid rowing down Tarcoola Reach during this 20 minute period, if possible. Any rowers who do proceed down Tarcoola Reach at this time will still be able to make their way past the swim course on the Weston Park side of the reach but, if they do so, are asked to exercise extreme caution and to obey any directions from marshals. The Black Mountain Peninsula-based rowing clubs will be able to use their launch pontoon as normal throughout the swim.

REGATTA FINISH LINE AREA AND CYCLE PATH

The cycle path through the regatta finish line area will be lined with para-webbing and bunting. There will be two cycle path cross-over points for pedestrians, one of which will also be for regatta organisers' vehicles. These cross-over points will be manned by triathlon marshals. The off-road cyclists will be riding down the cycle path in one direction between 8.10am and 8.30am, and will be returning down the cycle path after 9.00am.

The cycle path linking the regatta finish line area to Black Mountain Peninsula will be closed to pedestrians between 8.00am and 10.00am.

ROAD CLOSURES

Garryowen Drive on Black Mountain Peninsula will be closed to vehicles between 7.45am and 10.00am. The Black Mountain Peninsula boat sheds will only be accessable by water during this period.

Lady Denman Drive will be open as normal throughout the regatta.
