The world championships commence in a couple of days (24 Aug). The FISA web site is a good source of information that frequently mentions Australians. Also, the Rowing Australia web site has Australian-specific news, including 'postcards' from our Jane Robinson. Also, Taryn Langdon (ACTAS PR) reports: The upcoming World Rowing Championships in Milan, Italy will be tightly contested as nations begin to fight for Olympic qualification. Winners of the 2003 World Championships will gain a slight psychological edge over the world's best as crews prepare for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the next true test for the national crews. ACTAS athlete Jane Robinson and the Australian women's quad scull go into the World Championships as one of the favourites after the crew won the recent World Cup event in Switzerland. The crew asserts that they are ready for a tough battle in, what is regarded as one of the toughest events on the World Championship program. A win will give Australia a title that has eluded the Australian quad scull crews in recent history. Disappointingly, former ACTAS rower Donna Martin who was in the quad scull in their World Cup win has withdrawn from the quad through injury. Hopefully the young sculler who progressed through the ACTAS Talent Search Program will be fit to row in the women's single scull at the Championships. The women's scullers are coached by ACT/AIS coach Lyall McCarthy. Former ACTAS rowers Craig Jones and Mitchell Punch (Australian men's quad scull) will be hunting for a place in the men's quad scull final and a chance of a medal in Milan after a slightly disappointing 7th place at the last World Cup regatta. ACT and AIS head coach Reinhold Batschi is coaching the men's quad. ACT Regatta Pointscore - Final 2002-3 Positions The final pointscore position for each club at the end of the 2002-3 season is now available on this web site. ACTRA will be promoting the pointscore more heavily in the 2003-4 season. Don't forget to review the draft regatta timetable and get your comments in as described below. ACTRA Committee Meeting The ACTRA Committee is meeting on this Thursday, 21 August.
