Rowing Program

Capital Lakes Rowing Club offers rowing and rowing training at all levels, Introductory, Novice and Advanced. Rowing Programs are for all ages and abilities and training is conducted by qualified and experienced coaches. Organised sessions are held in the mornings seven days a week, 6:00 am - 7:45 am weekdays and 7:00 am to 10:30 am weekends. Experienced rowers are welcome to row outside of these times. The Club participate in Time Trials, all local regattas and selected interstate regattas (mainly in Sydney).

The Club uses the core Learn To Row Program promoted by Rowing Australia. Under the program new rowers are taught the scull over six sessions. The Club policy is to use experienced coaches for learn to row programs on the basis that proper technique learnt at the beginning makes rowing easier and more enjoyable. Learn to row classes are generally run on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am for 2 hours. Classes are divided into either masters (adults) or juniors (under 18), and can be tailored for organised groups.

Learners

At Capital Lakes we offer the course “Go Rowing” to people wishing to learn to row. This course has been developed by the national body, Rowing Australia, and provides an excellent introduction to the sport of rowing and to the aquatic environment.

The course consists of six two hour lessons. It covers the basic sculling stroke (rowing with two oars), basic care and set up of the rowing boat, safety in the aquatic environment and some of the rules on the water. A certificate of achievement is provided at the completion of the course.

Go Rowing (beginners) is offered in a number of formats:

To Keep Rowing...

After completing the Go Rowing course, novice rowers are welcome to join the club and participate in organised rowing training.

Better Rowing

Rowers who wish to participate during the regatta season are organised into squads according to ability. Each squad has a coach who will arrange regular training sessions.

Social Rowing

For those who do not intend to compete, social rowing is available at specified times with coaching provided on an ad-hoc basis.

Masters

CLRC has an expanding masters program suited for male and female rowers who are coming back to rowing after a (often long) break or for those who wish to take up the sport for the first time.  Masters is for all ages over 27 years, often continuing through to their 60s and 70s and beyond. CLRC conducts separate “Go Rowing” learn to row programs for masters and trains at similar times to junior and senior rowers.
